2022 Wedding Season Through The Eyes of A Wedding Coordinator

And just like that the 2022 wedding season has come to an end!

This was the first season our lovely wedding coordinator Lara joined Katie and the Mountainscape team in making our couples’ Rocky Mountains dreams come true. With one of the busiest summers we have had, it was a whirlwind of a year planning and designing luxury mountain weddings. With Lara’s creativity and resourcefulness 2022 was a year of success creating wedding masterpieces. We are excited to see what the 2023 wedding season brings!

From 2022 wedding trends to some of the most incredible destinations her job has taken her, we decided to sit down with Lara and ask some insightful questions to sum up her first wedding season in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Q1: How would you describe your first wedding season in five words?

A: Creative, Tough, Beautiful, Long, and Rewarding.

Q2: What were your must haves items you kept in your planner kit that you couldn’t live without?

A: Bobby-pins, deodorant and my sewing kit.

Q3: Do you prefer summer or winter weddings?

A: Though winter is beautiful here in the Rockies, I’d have to say summer weddings. Longer ceremonies are more tolerable during summer.

Q4: Where are some of the coolest places your job has taken you in 2022?

A: Emerald Lake Lodge has got to be top of the list. Stunning location and such a great venue to work with.

Q5: What was something new you learned about working in the wedding industry?

A: In the past, I worked on corporate events – so really everything was new to me! Weddings can be wonderful and weird – it was a whole new world to me this year!

Q6: Why do you think having a wedding planner is so important?

A: It allows your family and friends to fully enjoy the day, as all of the important tasks are taken care of by your trusted team. It also ensures that your wedding vision becomes reality on your special day.

Q7: What is the number one piece of advice you would give to your Wedding Couple on the day of their wedding?

A: Take time to breathe!! The day will feel as though it goes by so fast, make sure you take those moments to sit back and be present. It’s a marathon – not a sprint!!

Q8: What was your favourite wedding trend of 2022 and what 2023 wedding trends do you think we will see?

A: Disposable cameras or polaroid cameras were my favorite wedding trend of 2022. The couples will be able to cherish those candid photos of their guests forever! As for 2023 wedding trends, I think we will see trends such as mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses. It creates a more unique aesthetic and allows your bridal party to show off their personalities.

Q9: What was the most valuable lesson you learned from this wedding season?

A: Keeping my head on a swivel. I’ve got to avoid those cameras! No one wants pictures of their wedding planner unless they do in which I will happily participate! As much as we can prepare, we have to adapt and react to oncoming situations.

Q10: When someone is looking for a planner what are some good questions to ask at the initial consultation?

A: The biggest thing during a consult is to figure out that your personalities match and that your planner understands what you are wanting. Weddings don’t have to be traditional, they should be unique to you – and that is what we are here to do!

Approaching the end of the year we are excited to see what trends the 2023 wedding season will bring

Lara has predicted mismatched bridesmaid dresses as the wedding trend of 2023 and rumour has it that COLOUR is back! According to Pantone, the colour of 2023 will be Viva Magenta, which gives us jewel-toned vibes for our rocky mountain bridesmaids. Perhaps we may even see this colour incorporated into florals as it promotes joyfulness and optimism to a celebration.

Leaving 2022 with a wealth of knowledge we are excited to enter the new wedding season with Lara by our side. Bring on the new year!
